Quiz Time

A short quiz, thanks to Lisa. Not to far off... I did have a goth cape I sewed myself and wore all freshman year :0)

Cute and Featherly

Aren't they adorable?? When we were getting ready to walk to work the other day Shawn saw these little guys outside the house and yelled for me to get my camera. I took all these photos from inside through the window. Good thing I decided to clean the windows recently. We saw them today again and it looks like they may be down a few in numbers.

Fair Time

Well... not quite, but fair is sure getting closer and instead of my last minute entry from last year I've actually gotten my act together and selected a total of 4 photos for 2 entries. It is a really hard choice to try and pick the photos you think will impress the most. I still have time to enter more photos if you may have an absolute favorite.

Here's what I have entered so far...

I have a three frame setup highlighting Dawes Glacier that we visited while in Alaska for our honeymoon.

Then I had to add the local flair of the courthouse highlighted by a beautiful sunrise I captured while walking Shawn to school last fall.

I just sent the order for the photos tonight along with hundreds of photos from our wedding and honeymoon. I'm excited to get the hard copies and really see what they all look like in print.

This weekend is supposed to be a killer when it comes to weather... almost literally I'm sure. Saturday the temperature is supposed to be 106. Luckily we'll be at the lake for teh weekend and able to hide in the water. Who knows, maybe Chelan will actually be warm enough for me to enter the water.

Suicide Race 101

I had my first introduction to Omak's Suicide Race that coincides with the Omak Stampede every year. The had practice runs and swim tests for the horses tonight. I called up Tim and asked if he wanted to go watch with the cameras. We headed down and the light was perfect, but of course things didn't start on time, so the light quickly disappeared. It was interesting chatting with Tim about the race as he's a 20 year plus resident and he had some facts that he shared with me. We may go back tomorrow night for more elimination races.

The sunset was awfully pretty tonight, too bad it is because of the fire burning at Green Lake. We could watch the smoke rising from the Hill and the planes circled around us constantly. Kind of felt like WW2 with all the big tankers flying back and forth from Omak Lake. We even watched one dump a big load of water or retardant right the crest of a hill. The last number I heard was 12 structures threatened. There are a couple of teachers up that way that I hope are faring well with the family, house and animals.

Hard at Work... Really

Just letting all my readers know I'm hard at work editing all these Alaska photos... can't you tell? I really do have the computer in front of me while enjoying that cigar :0)

Back on Shore

We're back on land after a week of being busy and eating... alot. We're at Shawn's folks in Granite Falls waiting a day before we head home. There will actually be a one night detour to the cabin on Lake Chelan because we have to drop his dad off.

Well, among the 1500+ photos I'll give you a small sample and it wasn't even from my camera. As soon as I get a chance to look through and edit the photos a bit more you'll be getting a small tour of Juneau, Skagway and Prince Rupert, BC.

Off to Alaska!

We're off to Alaska, actually slight detour to Granite Falls and then on to Alaska. We'll head to Shawn's folks tomorrow after dropping the kitty off at the vet and then the cruise ship leaves Friday night. I'm really looking forward to all the great food and no dishes.

There are plans for tons of photos and I hope to actually do some updating while cruising when we stop in Skagway and Juneau, but no guarantees.

I'll leave the loyal readers with one more wedding shot, since I guess technically we are leaving for our honeymoon. This wonderful shot is from Stephanie.

More Wedding Photos

Expect to see lots of these in the next few months as I get my favorite ones. Stephanie is one of my photo friends who made it out to the wedding and did some photography for me. She just posted a preview on her site. What great photos! I'm so excited to see what else she captured.

Preview From Tim

I got an email from Tim Patrick today giving me an update on photos and he sent me one I really liked. There's an old barn on Amy's Manor property that we did some photos in:

Bridezilla!

The horror stories abound about bridezilla. You know the women who have to control everything and they are not above being nasty to anyone and everyone. Well I feel I got the ultimate compliment from one of the staff members at Amy's Manor. They told my sister-in-law that I was one of the most laid back brides they had ever dealt with.

But.... in tradition with brides morphing into bridezilla I do have a picture of The Other Side. Although it could be considered quite the embarrassing photo, I love it!

The girls had so much fun teasing me about being demanding we couldn't resist. I think my only demand that they reluctantly agreed to (albeit not very hard) was my lunch trip to McDonalds :0) Although somehow the toy that Caroline got in her Happy Meal ended up having a prominent seat for the wedding hiding among the flowers.

Wedding Photos

Alright in between having to say goodbye to everybody and having the hillside across from us burn down I've finally got the pictures my brother took all edited and happy. Here's a quick sample, but the rest can be viewed on my website. There will be more to come as I haven't gotten photos from Tim or Stephanie yet and I'm eager to see what photos they took.

Threatening Fire

Threatening Fire
Originally uploaded by Kendal Jean Photos

There will be more coming. The fire has now swept over the entire hillside that you can view from my living room window. We spent quite a bit of the time up on the hill behind us with Amy and Jeff. I've taken over 350 pictures, but bedtime for me tonight. Check back tomorrow for more photos of the fire and its aftermath.

Wildfire Excitement

Our first wildfires of Okanogan. It really seems like we are surrounded right now. The fire siren went went off three times in about 30 minutes starting around 7pm. There is one fire south near Malott on Rattlesnake Butte, one just up the hill from us near Glover Lane and two on the reservation, apparently all from lightening strikes. From our back porch we watched one of them crest the hill. It's now so smoky that you can't even see the hillside. The fires are just a bit of encouragement to buy a house in town.

My Wedding

My Wedding
Originally uploaded by Kendal Jean Photos

Here's the first wedding photo to post from the big day. My brother, Jason, borrowed my camera and snapped away for me and it is so nice to get a little preview as to what the two pros, Tim and Stephanie, captured. There will be lots more to come and probably a link to all of them soon, so keep checking back. I'll also have to do the run down on the whole day. It was so wonderful!

I took a trip to South Carolina and ultimately Virginia for a friend's graduation. I used to live in Aiken, SC and went to one of the most picturesque places around, Hopeland Gardens. This oak sure is the epitome of the south to me.

I had to copy Lisa and at least show off my stateside travels. The world map was a bit sparse as all the countries I've been to are dots, but the US is impressive huh? I've lived in 3 of those states too :0)

Birds Gone Wild

While at Lake Chelan over Memorial Day weekend I found a comfy rock to sit on right in front of a creek and snapped photos of birds for probably a couple hours. It was pretty fun and I saw a lot of cool birds. The ones below are just a sample, but there were goldfinches, osprey and even a lazuli bunting which I thought was a bluebird. You can see all of them in my portfolio. I even created an all new Bird section because of all the photos I took. Shawn and I have decided that bird watching is kind of fun. Maybe it's the hunt for them with the camera too.

Track and Field

I'm a little bummed I'm not sitting on the track in West Spokane watching my track kids compete in regionals, but alas, it's going to be almost 100 today so I'm pretty thankful for the a/c :0) Not going also gave me time to get some photos edited from last Friday's Districts. I tried to get photos of more then just the throwers, but since I coach the throwers I'm in a different part of the track for the most part.

My photography goals really seem to be changing as I try various things and I'm really starting to enjoy photographing the kids in sports. I enjoy being able to freeze that moment that catches something, whether it is concentration, pain or just being purely athletic. I even put together a slide show for the baseball banquet and I think the kids really enjoyed seeing themselves in action.

In other news our honeymoon has been set and I'm thrilled to be taking my camera to Alaska. We are going to take a 7 day cruise leaving Seattle and going to Sitka, Juneau and Prince Rupert. Hopefully I can get a photo of a bear :0)

"Wild" Horses

Protecting Baby
Originally uploaded by Kendal Jean Photos

Alright not really wild, hence the quotes, but probably as close as you'll get around here. We were headed up to Camp Progress, the 6th grade outdoor camp, for clean up and saw these guys hanging out on the side of the road. A lot of the reservation is range land, so no fences, and this little herd had two brand new babies. They were pretty protective and got the babies behind them pretty quick which was disappointing for my camera.

I'm also trying out a new watermark. What do you think? Does it take too much away from viewing the photo? Suggestions?

Prom Photos

Oh man, prom was so much fun! My date didn't want to come with me, instead he stayed home and graded papers, but I was turned loose with a big flash unit on my camera. I came away with over 400 candid photos. Edited that down to 127 and they are all posted and can be purchased through Tim Patrick Photography. Check on the event page and you'll see a big fat link for "Kendal's Candids." It was a lot of fun and I hope Tim will invite me back to help him out with events.
